He was safe in grandfather’s arms,

This small boy in those big, strong hands

Was not afraid of any harms

While playing on my grandpa’s lands.

Grandfather’s arms would raise me high

And toss me up into the air.

I realized that I could fly,

When grandpa’s arms would put me there.

His arms were sturdy, strong and true.

They carried me so far away,

And always kept me good as new

So I could play another day.

I felt so good in grandpa’s arms;

He held me tight, but I was free.

Grandpa is gone, but still I see

The times when grandpa carried me.

Sometimes I wonder still today,

Whether my grandpa still can see.

If I begin to lose my way,

I feel some arms are guiding me.

Could it still be grandfather’s arms?

Or some others I cannot see…

Perhaps the Father of us all,

Whose loving arms have set us free.
